Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL, a US$12.3 billion industry leader, founded the Shiv Nadar Foundation in 1994. The following ethos was kept in mind while the organization built up its many initiatives:
The idea of creative philanthropy is profoundly ingrained in the guiding philosophy of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which includes developing exceptional education institutions that promote and catalyze positive change and continually improve lives.
The Foundation focuses on “creative philanthropy” to achieve long-lasting, high-impact socio-economic transformation. This concept allows for sustained and institutionalized actions to uplift the society.
The Shiv Nadar Foundation’s programs are founded in the fields of transformational education. The Foundation for children strives to ensure that quality education and holistic learning are available to children from marginalized communities, as education is one of the most effective transformational instruments. Mr. Shiv Nadar decided to focus his philanthropic efforts on the area of education because he sees himself as a product of that system, which he believes was essential to his success. The Foundation is moving toward transformative education in order to proactively harvest a significant demographic dividend because of its commitment to this notion.
Regardless of their socioeconomic status, all students are given access to cutting-edge environments, thanks to the Foundation. To address children’s fundamental right to education, the Foundation focuses on establishing inclusive learning as it is the only effective weapon for widespread change.
Governance and Transparency
The Shiv Nadar Foundation places a strong emphasis on transparency and governance as an incorporated workflow paradigm. The executive team and the board of trustees collaborate to ensure that the Foundation operates with the highest levels of accountability, functional transparency, and governance.
A strict set of guidelines is followed, such as committee charters, standards of independence, and an ethics code, which guarantee that the charitable goals are consistently attained. With a strong emphasis on statutory and operational transparency, the board functions independently as an authority that supervises, creates, and approves the fundamental plans, objectives, funding policies, budget allocation, and monitoring and reviewing of regulatory standards.
The Foundation is dedicated to bridging the socioeconomic gap by empowering people via transformational education and fostering the development of a more just and merit-based society. To do this, the Foundation built organizations and initiatives in India’s underserved fields of art and education in both rural and urban areas.
