‘Half a dozen’ dreams and beyond

January 3, 2017 snfblog

Sudeeksha is from Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. She joined VidyaGyan, an institution of Shiv Nadar Foundation, in 2011.

The loss of my father’s business was a turning point in my life. I used to study in a good public school till the first standard, until I had to be pulled out because my father could no longer afford my fees. This incident changed my perception towards life and pushed me to work harder and find new ways to learn. When I was admitted into a Government school, I would always approach my seniors and try to learn all that I could from them- such was my thirst for knowledge. In my family, we are six brothers and sisters and I am the eldest. We call ourselves ‘half a dozen’. It is my foremost goal in life to make sure that my half a dozen get a fair chance at succeeding in their lives. They should be able to perform brilliantly in whatever they choose to do in their lives. We all dream of greater opportunities and I wish to someday start a chain of evening schools in rural India, where every single child can study and learn that all their dreams are within their reach.

*VidyaGyan is a Leadership Academy, designed for the economically underprivileged, meritorious students of rural India. Established in 2009, VidyaGyan envisions bridging the urban-rural divide by creating leaders from India’s rural hinterland who can act as catalysts of change for their communities, villages, and the nation.
